[NL] Op donderdag 28 november geeft Nazih Borish, muziekcomponist en oud-speler een masterclass in MAQAM. Tijdens deze masterclass deelt Nazih Borish zijn kennis en vakmanschap.

Geboren in Latakia, Syrië, begon hij op zeer jonge leeftijd met het leren bespelen van de oud. Op zijn dertiende speelde hij al de oud in populaire muziekbands. Een behoorlijk bijzonder begin van zijn muziekcarrière. Door zijn eigen stijl te introduceren, technieken voor het eerst toe te passen op de oud, en muzikale klanken zoals jazz, flamenco en Indiase muziek te combineren, werd een authentiek Nazih Borish geluid geboren.

In 2000 richtte hij in zijn geboortestad Latakia zijn eigen school op om de oud te onderwijzen, en leerde hij meer dan 100 studenten hoe ze dit buitengewone instrument moesten bespelen. In 2016 verhuisde hij naar Montreal om zijn muzikale missie voort te zetten en zijn muzikale familie uit te breiden. In 2017 begon hij te werken bij het Center of Musicians of the World in Montreal, waar hij tot op de dag van vandaag nog steeds werkt.

[ENG] On Thursday, November 28, Nazih Borish, music composer and oud player, will give a masterclass at MAQAM. During this masterclass, Nazih Borish will share his knowledge and craftsmanship.

Born in Latakia, Syria, he started learning to play the oud at a very young age. At the age of thirteen, he was already playing the oud in popular music bands. A rather special start to his music career. By introducing his own style, applying techniques to the oud for the first time, and combining musical sounds such as jazz, flamenco and Indian music, an authentic Nazih Borish sound was born.

In 2000, he founded his own school to teach the oud in his hometown of Latakia, and taught more than 100 students how to play this extraordinary instrument. In 2016, he moved to Montreal to continue his musical mission and expand his musical family. In 2017 he started working at the Center of Musicians of the World in Montreal, where he still works today.
